Dr. Vris, Ear, Nose and Throat Specialists

At Ear, Nose and Throat Specialists, Dr. Thomas W. Vris provides specialized care for disorders of the ear, nose, and throat (ENT). Located in the heart of southern Fairfield County, Ear, Nose and Throat Specialists offers medical center-level expertise without the travel to New York, New Haven or Boston.

After completing training at Harvard, Yale, and the prestigious Klinik am Rosenberg in Switzerland, Dr. Vris turned down offers from leading medical schools to practice in Fairfield County. It is his mandate to bring the same high quality of a medical center with the personal care of a community practice. Now, as one of the most experienced ear, nose and throat (ENT) specialists in Connecticut, Dr. Vris has established an unsurpassed record for outcomes and safety across the spectrum of ear, nose and throat care.

Dr.Vris has particular expertise in medical and surgical treatment of nasal and sinus disease, and has been a pioneer in developing minimally invasive techniques for sinus surgery and septal surgery (septoplasty). He has also developed successful treatments for vertigo (dizziness) when standard treatments have failed. He is currently working on a procedure for sensorineural hearing loss and has had excellent results in cases of sudden deafness that were thought to be hopeless. He has performed many microscopic ear reconstructions and stapedectomies for hearing restoration and is one of the few surgeons in Fairfield County who does this type of surgery. In addition to his focus on surgical solutions for hearing loss, Dr. Vris  helped to design a prototype hearing aid that is today one of the most widely used designs in the world.

In the area of head and neck cancer, Dr. Vris was an early advocate for non-radical surgery combined with chemo-radiation to preserve appearance and function. Over the course of many years, this approach has proven to be at least as effective as the more radical surgeries offered at some New York centers. Dr. Vris also brought the “bloodless” tonsillectomy to Fairfield County many years ago and has performed thousands of pediatric tonsillectomies and ear surgeries without a single major complication. In these and other areas Dr. Vris has combined innovation and experience to provide superior results with an unsurpassed safety record. In fact, many patients who live and/or work in New York have their care and surgery performed by Dr.Vris.

Although highly sophisticated care is available at Ear, Nose and Throat Specialists, Dr.Vris gives the same attention to the routine ear, nose and throat (ENT) problems to which thousands of families from the surrounding towns of New Canaan, Wilton, Darien,Weston, Ridgefield,Westport, Norwalk and Stamford can attest.

Dr.Vris has been recognized in Who’s Who in America, Who’s Who in American Medicine, the Consumer Guide to America’s Top Physicians, Castle and Conolly’s Guide to Top Doctors, and in many local magazines and newspapers.  He has held many leadership positions at Norwalk Hospital and in the state and local medical societies and was on the faculty at Yale for many years. He was presented to Queen Elizabeth of England at St. James Palace in 2009. He resides locally and in New York City.
